The Purpose Of Life Insurance

Picture
Mike And His Wife Faith
I have been asked the question, Why Isn't Life Insurance Called Death Insurance, After all the deceased person will never see the benefits? While that is partially true, the purpose of Life Insurance is to provide for the living. Hence the term "LIFE". It is not only intended to Insure the life of the person that was insured, but to provide a financial covering for those that have been left behind. There is no value that can be placed on an individuals life, and while families may return to somewhat normal activities after the death of a loved one, there are things that will never be forgotten. Some of the things that will forever be remembered is the loss of income, the mortgage or rent payments that must be paid, a child's education, a spouse that is forced to take a second job, these things can disable a person from being able to cognitively deal with the loss of a loved one. Life Insurance enables you to continue providing for the lives of those that you love the most. With life insurance, you protect life, and provide for the well being of those that are grieving for years after you leave them in body. Your loved ones will thank your for it.

Some Things Your Life Insurance Policy Should Include

Picture
First of all, your life insurance policy should include adequate coverage. In addition to adequate coverage, you should discuss with your agent about the additional riders that can be included with most life insurance policies. I will list a majority of the most important riders available. In many cases these riders will not affect your premium that much, and are well worth the added benefits.
  1. Waiver of Premium Rider - A Waiver of premium rider ensures that your premiums are paid if you become totally disabled during the term of the policy.
  2. Disability Income Rider - You collect income from the insurance company if you become totally disabled and cant work.
  3. Guaranteed Insurability Rider - This rider allows you to purchase additional insurance later in life without having to prove insurability or have a medical exam.
  4. Term Conversion Rider - Term Insurance provides coverage for a certain period of time. A Term conversion rider enables you to convert term insurance to a permanent insurance policy before the term expires.
  5. Accelerated Death Benefit Rider - This rider allows you collect a portion of the policies death benefit if you become terminally ill, and have a short life expectancy. Usually one year or less.
  6. Critical Illness Rider - This rider pays a lump sum if you are diagnosed with a critical illness, such as Cancer, Stroke, Renal Failure, or other diseases specified in your policy.
  7. Accidental Death Rider - Provides an additional death benefit if the insured's death is the result of an accident.
  8. Return Of Premium Rider - This rider enables you to have your premiums returned to you, if you live past the specified term of the policy.
